Single line diagram

Draw, label and export single line diagrams.

The single line diagram (SLD) tool lets you start from a template, drag in electrical symbols and export a PDF for a permit or a customer. This page covers creating, editing and sharing a diagram.

Use a computer or tablet

Drawing needs a bigger canvas than a phone screen. Create and edit diagrams on a computer or tablet. On a phone you can open and view diagrams that are already on your account, and the web editor shows "For the best experience, switch to a desktop device."

Create a diagram

  1. In your dashboard, click Single line diagrams in the left menu.
  2. Click New.
  3. Pick a template from the gallery. Use Search templates to find one quickly.
  4. Enter a Title and the Property address, and check the header details (shop name, license, preparer and contact info).
  5. Click Use template. The diagram opens in the editor.

Templates cover common home electrification jobs, including EV chargers, generators, batteries, solar and panel upgrades.

Draw and label

  • Drag shapes and symbols from the left sidebar onto the page.
  • Select a shape to change its style, text or arrangement in the right sidebar.
  • The title helps organize your dashboard. It does not appear on the PDF.

Save your work

In the dashboard editor, click Save and view to save and return to the diagram, or Save and download to save and get the PDF. If you leave with unsaved changes, the editor warns you first.

Share, download or print

Open the diagram from Single line diagrams and use Share, Download or Print. Share gives you two options:

  • Invite team member to edit adds that person to your account.
  • Send PDF via email only sends a PDF copy. Type the address and click Share PDF.

Try it for free

You can try the tool without an account on the single line diagram page. Pick a template, enter your email and click Use free template. Use Get free PDF in the editor to get your file. You need a free account (no credit card) to unlock the final document.

Free plan and Pro features

  • A free account can create 2 diagrams. Editing a saved diagram needs a paid plan.
  • Custom templates and Custom symbols (under Single line diagrams in the left menu) and Make template are available on the Pro plans. See pricing.

The diagram tool is not loading

If the diagram editor will not load, or some features stop working, the cause is usually old data saved in your browser or a login shared between people. Clearing Kopperfield's site data and logging in again usually fixes it.

Common causes

  • A shared login. Kopperfield needs one login per person. Using the same login on several people's computers can cause odd behaviour. See Adding and removing team members.
  • Old saved data. Browsers sometimes keep outdated session or settings data.
  • A recent update. After we release changes, older saved data can conflict with the new version.
